Church of Saints Peter and Paul where all Tsars are buried. On July 17, 1998, Tsar Nicholas the Second, his wife and three children were buried within the Church in a historical ceremony attended by President Boris Yeltsin. The Russian Orthodox Church clergy downplayed the event because of distrust of testing used in identification. Recent events within Russia allowed the discovery of the Tsar's remains and those of his family where they were secretly murdered in the Ural Mountains on July 17, 1918. The highly acclaimed Russian film, Alexander Nevsky, used this scene as the backdrop for relating the history of the 1252 A.D. defeat of the Tartars and Germanic knights by Russians. Filmed in 1938 as anti-nazi propaganda, Russians wanted to send a clear message. This Orthodox cathedral site was the location of   feudal interests uniting into a Russian identity to repel foreign invaders. The film is sometimes shown on cable in the USA.
